I know it's a long shot, but do you own property in Southern FL? Do you know someone who does and would rent it for a discount or at least reasonable price?
Would you maybe even be willing to host me, Tina and a friend of ours for a week? (assuming it wouldn't be a burden on you). As you might already know, I'm having top surgery in Southern FL in February with Dr. Garramone (Sunrise, FL/ Pembroke Pines, FL). It's peak vacation season down there, so rental apartments this time of year are pretty steep. I would be willing to stay up to an hour away from Ft. Lauderdale especially if it meant that we'd be staying with/near LGBT or affirming blogger folks. Please email me directly with any idea that you might have or suggestion that might help. Ugh, I wish I still lived there, you would totally have a place to crash! Unfortunately, I was married when I lived there and have no LGBT friends there. Damn it!

Jess – wish I could help, I got no one. Here’s a question, is there any concern about having the surgery in FL when they (state regs) are not really supportive of the LBGT community?

Sorry, J…don’t know a soul in Florida. We have a good friend, JD, who used to be Wendy. He has been such an education for both of us, especially to Bing who used to say infuriating things to me like, “You get what you get. Don’t mess with the package.” I think the best thing to do is exactly what JD does. He took the time to tell us exactly what he went through, how important it was to him to be himself, no matter what. Little by little, Bing came around. JD is a substitute teacher in our school district and even though he is very qualified, he simply can’t get on permanently. It is like anything new, yes? You just have to stand tall and keep talking. Refuse to hide. But, god…so hard. Good luck to you.
