Where the Deer and the Antelope…. Definitely Don’t.

No Gravatar

We do get some pretty birds and some squirrels, but not deer OR antelope.

Thanks to Freecycle , my garden is loaded with plently of vegetable plants to get us through until winter. I’m hoping to be able to can some tomatoes and freeze some broccoli and cauliflower as well so that we can eat it into the winter months. Freecycle has been wonderful. I recently got a free garden cart like the one seen on the right except it’s heavy duty. People have also given me tomato cages, a weed whacker, a hedge trimmer, and an electric saw.

What I am in desperate need for in the yard care department is a lawn mower. I want the reel type, not gas powered (better for the muscles, not to mention our fragile environment). If I didn’t KNOW that I’d mow over the power cord, I’d opt for an electric push mower. My grandpa always used those, and I’ve owned one in the past. I really loved it. Since our lawn mower died last year we’ve been paying a landscaper to cut our grass, and with the able bodied butch (who is in need of exercise and loves yardwork) and a teenage boy in the house, we could really stand to do the work ourselves. :P
So, if anyone has a working reel mower they aren’t using and would like to pass it along to me, I’d gladly take it off your hands and put it to good use.
The Bamboo is still growing. Every few days I walk the yard looking for new shoots. I always fund at least 4 or 5. That stuff is amazing. Tina and I have decided we’re going to rent a roto-tiller and try to hack up the ground and get rid of it ourselves. That could solve the problem or make it much worse. We’re at a point where we’re fed up wit it and want our yard back so we’re willing to take drastic action.

On the inside of the homefront… we decided to freecycle our older, portable dishwasher and go back to washing dishes by hand until we can afford to buy a newer energy/water saving model. We almost never washed a load of dishes without having to re-wash a bunch of them. It just wasn’t worth it. I almost want to stick with doing it the old fashioned way.
More inside news:
The other day Tina and I came home to find that the outside door was locked (not usually the case when there are people inside), whilst our teenage boy and his *gulp* girlfriend were alone in the house, in boy’s bedroom. Lord if I didn’t just about lose my sh!t. Thankfully, the wife was able to prevent me from going completley mad over it.
Apparently this was ok because the girl’s sister was at a Dr. appt. down the street from our house. Wha, WHA, WHAT???!!! Let’s just say that shouldn’t be happening again as I made certain to make it plenty embarassing for both children. I am sooo not into being a grandparent at 30.
Next…
Tink is growing up. Still flying backwards, but growing up just the same (the brreder seems to have clipper her wings too soon and too short). She’s holding her ground much better with Louie, and has begun to fight back which is awesome. All is well in the world and there is no longer a need for another cage. I plan on letting her wings grow back fully before I clip them again. I want to be certain she’s not a moron before I do. She is such a cutie and everyone in the house likes her way better than the grumpy old man, Louie. I still prefer the Lou. (Sorry Tinky winky)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Another thing…
The coolest thing happened yesterday. Tina pocket dialed me. Not only did she call me by accident, but she was singing her heart out in the car on the way home from work. She was singing a song that I absolutely love only because of the way she sings it. It’s California Dreamin’ by Queen Latifah. TIna hits all of the nots the way they should be hit, and I love her for it.
I also love that she’s cute and adds an “s” to the end of some words to make them sound cuter. For instance:
“It’s late go to sleeps”
“Don’t touch my feets”
“I want a popcicles”
etc.
I love this stuff even more because I know that only those inside of the Paroma home are able to witness the “cutesyness” of Tina.
Jess Paroma – OUT.
    Really LMAO that you want to make sure your bird isn’t a moron!
    As for the teenage boy… Oh.my. Hope the embarrassment tactic works.
    - you got veggies on freecycle?
    geez, i really need to check this thing out.
    - good luck finding a reel mower. I watched the bargain news for a while then finally gave up and bought a new one.
    think about what you are spending on having someone cut it. might make sense to just go buy one too.
    - dishwashers are overrated. we’ve never had one.
    Yeah! I actually freecycled a bunch of seedlings that I had extra. When my garden died, I reached out to freecycle to see if anyone else had an over abundance and got many responses.
    I think that you and the wife will absolutely love freecycle. I go there whenever I have anything that’s not of use to us anymore and usually 9 times of out 10 it’s of use to someone else. I also go there before I buy anything that someone else may have no need for anymore. It’s all about keeping it out of our landfills.
    As for the mower, I’m sure I will eventually crack and buy one. I’ve seen so many go through freecycle but people jump all over those things and I’m not quick enough LOL
    I love those push mowers! If I ever get a house I’m definitely going to get one of those. I found one on QVC for like $100. (Shut up, I love QVC!).
    Do you not like the bamboo? I would think its pretty cool! I don’t think anyone I know grows it. I think its pretty :)
    I don’t think Freecycle is big around here, but I’m gonna check it out! Thanks!
    heya dandylion picker!
    I HATE BAMBOO. Love the way it looks, but it’s a disasterous plant. I recommend that you never plant it on any property you ever own (unless you ever own half a state.. then I say plant it! and get a panda too!)
    If you click on bamboo in my tag cloud, you’ll see the posts about the horrible creature and why I hate it so.
    Freecycle is pretty much everywhere.. you’d be surprised.
    And QVC rocks. its a 24 hr infomercial. gotta love that!
    I have lemon balm in my yard — it’s like bamboo only smaller.
    Good luck!
    I’m sooo jealous of your garden!!! I had one almost every year since I was a child till I moved out 10 yrs ago.
    LOL on knowing that you WILL run over the cord of the mower!!! How many did you did you go through trimming the hedges? LMAO!!!
    Hope Jeremie has listened to my sage old advise and wraps that puppy up before you become Grand-ma Jess…Bwaahahahaha!
    And oh, Kat is certain that putting an S on the end of words to make them sound even cuter is def a “Tina” thing… cause I do the same thing with at least one word in every sentence…but usually only when I’m around her.
    Funny huh???
    I really love getting pocketdialled. Especially the way you did… with someone doing something really cool at the other end.
    I’m glad I ran across your blog, and will be back.
